Half Sour Pickles from Gregg's

This was from a newspaper clipping from the Providence Journal. Not sure what year. Note that the pickles don't keep very long due to a lack of preservatives.

Ingredients

  • Pickling Cucumbers
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Pickling Salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Pickling Spices
  • ¼ teaspoon Hot Pepper Seed Or Flaked Red Pepper
  • 8 Garlic Cloves Small
  • 1 Glass Jar Half Gallon
  • 2 cups Water Hot from faucet

Instructions

    Fill a glass jar with washed cucumbers. Packed tightly

    Mix salt, garlic, spices, and pepper in a bowl with 2 cups of hot water
  3. 3
    Stir until salt is dissolved
  4. 4
    Add some cold water until the liquid feels comfortable to the touch (not hot)

    Add to the cucumber jar
  6. 6
    Fill the jar to the top with warm water
  7. 7
    Let stand, loosely covered, for 1 hour
  8. 8
    After 1 hour, tightly cover and refrigerate for 7 days
