Ingredients

  • 6 Potatoes Medium Sized
  • Salt To Taste
  • Pepper To Taste

Cheese Sauce

  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 2 tablespoons Flour
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard optional
  • ¾ cup Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  1. 1
Boil the potatoes, remove the skins, and slice them into even pieces. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. 2
In a saucepan over low heat, warm the milk, butter, flour, salt, pepper, and mustard (if using).
  3. 3
Stir constantly until the mixture thickens.
  4. 4
Remove from heat and add ¾ cup grated cheddar cheese all at once, stirring until fully melted and smooth.
  5. 5
    Preheat oven to 350°F.
  6. 6
In a square casserole dish, place a layer of sliced potatoes.
  7. 7
Cover with about one-third of the cheese sauce.
  8. 8
Add another layer of potatoes and another portion of cheese sauce.
  9. 9
Repeat until all potatoes are used.
  10. 10
Pour the remaining cheese sauce evenly over the top.
  11. 11
Sprinkle additional cheddar cheese over the surface.
  12. 12
Bake uncovered at 350°F for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  13. 13
If needed, cover lightly with foil halfway through baking to prevent over-browning.
  14. 14
Allow the dish to rest for about 10 minutes before serving so the sauce can set slightly.
