Cheese Sauce
- 1 cup Milk
- 1 tablespoon Butter
- 2 tablespoons Flour
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Mustard optional
- ¾ cup Cheddar Cheese
Instructions
-
1Boil the potatoes, remove the skins, and slice them into even pieces. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
-
2In a saucepan over low heat, warm the milk, butter, flour, salt, pepper, and mustard (if using).
-
3Stir constantly until the mixture thickens.
-
4Remove from heat and add ¾ cup grated cheddar cheese all at once, stirring until fully melted and smooth.
-
5Preheat oven to 350°F.
-
6In a square casserole dish, place a layer of sliced potatoes.
-
7Cover with about one-third of the cheese sauce.
-
8Add another layer of potatoes and another portion of cheese sauce.
-
9Repeat until all potatoes are used.
-
10Pour the remaining cheese sauce evenly over the top.
-
11Sprinkle additional cheddar cheese over the surface.
-
12Bake uncovered at 350°F for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
-
13If needed, cover lightly with foil halfway through baking to prevent over-browning.
-
14Allow the dish to rest for about 10 minutes before serving so the sauce can set slightly.
